Philadelphia Born & Raised

Philly Joe is originally from Philadelphia and has been performing for more than 40 years. He started playing guitar live with local Philly artists including The Show Stoppers (Ain't Nothin' but a House Party), The Carl Holms Investigation, Johnny Alton, The Gentle Persuasion, Harold Melvin and Archie Bells Backup Band (Tighten Up & Strategy). While touring with The Gentle Persuasion, he opened for Kool & the Gang and BB King in the early 70's.

Philly's Influences

As a young man living in South Philly, Philly Joe studied jazz guitar with such greats as Pat Martino, Dennis Sandoli and Joe Federico He also studied west coast funk with good friend Jeff Tamelier of "Tower of Power". He is influenced by Jazz/Fusion, R&B and of course Funk & lots of Soul.

Musical Skills

Predominantly a Jazz, Funk, Fusion & RnB Player, Philly Joe has been called on many times in his career to perform Rock, Country, Reggae and many of the American Standards. A schooled Musician with the ability to read and write charts, Philly Joe has arranged and produced several CD's including Aftershock's "Can you Feel It" CD. Philly also plays Guitar Synth, adding a whole other side to his sound.
